NEW HOPE AWARDED A $50,000 GRANT FROM PATRICK P. LEE FOUNDATION

MIAMI, FL- New Hope, a nonprofit organization located in Homestead, received a $50,000 grant from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation.  The money will be used as cash match to complement a $425,391 grant awarded by the Miami Dade County Homeless Trust to provide residential drug rehabilitation services for persons who are homeless.

For the past 15 years, New Hope has been helping people who live below the 200 percent Federal Poverty Level. The organization is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families to provide substance abuse and outpatient services to adults and children in South Dade.

The Patrick P. Lee Foundation's primary mission is dedicated to assisting medical and educational projects of not-for-profit organizations.  The foundation will also support organizations that serve the public interest and address the critical needs within Western New York and South Florida.

The Homeless Trust of Miami Dade County awarded New Hope C.O.R.P.S. the $425,391 grant to implement a Substance Abuse Residential Level 2 Rehabilitative program for homeless males who are struggling with drug and alcohol dependence and mental health issues (co-occurring disorders).  The total cost of the project is $539,740In order for New Hope to execute the grant, the agency is required to raise $114,349 in matching funds. New Hope also received a $20,000 administrative grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida to use as part of the required matching funds.

New Hope C.O.R.P.S. is the only facility in South Miami Dade County that provides residential services to this underserved population. The agency was founded by Mr. Manuel Alvarez and a group of volunteer workers.  They realized what a great challenge for male inmates upon release was to return to the life that brought them to jail without receiving proper treatment for their alcohol and substance abuse addictions.  New Hope was then created as a residential program to offer support in the community for addicts, ex convicts and their families.
